Watersportverbond follows line of international sports world regarding Ukraine situation

Source Watersportverbond

Watersportverbond reacts with shock to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and excludes athletes, officials and teams from Russia and Belarus from participation in (international) competitions in the Netherlands. Also, the association will not send athletes to competitions in these two countries. This concerns athletes from the disciplines sailing, kite- and windsurfing and canoeing.

With this, the Watersportverbond follows the line that has been set in the global sports world, led by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and followed by the international sailing federation World Sailing, the International Canoe Federation (ICF) and in the Netherlands by NOC*NSF.

In practice this means that athletes affiliated with or from Russia and Belarus are not welcome at the Allianz Regatta (May 27 – June 5, Almere/Amsterdam).

The Watersportverbond calls upon all associations and organizations that organize races with an open international registration to follow this line.

Furthermore, the Watersportverbond calls upon Dutch sailors and officials to withdraw from competitions and/or teams that are affiliated with Russia and Belarus.

We sympathize with everyone who is affected by the situation.
